Introduction
An Englishman who joins Anglophile Meetup? Am I the archetypal English eccentric? No, I would simply like to renew my acquaintance with the USA. I hope I'll be welcome. Like Jeeves, I know what cuts the mustard in the UK.
Who is your favorite British author/singer/actor? What did they write/sing/perform in that you are most fond of?

My film favourites are the stars of the old b&w films of the fifties and sixties. The appearance of Richard Attenborough and John Mills in the credits guarantee a great film. More recently, Michael Caine particularly in Zulu and Hugh Grant (Notting Hill). Anthony Hopkins in Remains of the day, Howard's End and of course 84, Charing Cross Road.

If you do not have an English first/last name, have you ever thought about Anglicizing it? If you have thought about it, what would you change it to?

My ex-wife, who lives in Minneapolis, has retained her married name (Edwards) in favour of her maiden name (Hanson) which is of Scandinavian origin. 'Edwards' may have a cache in the States but not in England, where the London phone book is full of them.

Do you like to keep up on The Royal Family?

It's hard not to keep up with The Royal Family as they are in the media every day. Her Majesty the Queen has the respect of most of the population the remaining royals attract lesser repect. I was proud to be present at the Royal Wedding.

Do you have a favorite English food? If so, what is it?

Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding and Fish 'n chips. Believe it or not, curry is now Britain's favourite dish!

Do you have any English heritage?

My Mother's family dates back to 1367. Her maiden name was Loveless. The Loveless's reached prominence in the 19th century as 'The Tolpuddle Martyrs' the founders of the Trade union movement. 1367 is not old by English standards!

  •  He's full of it. He really lives down the street from me in Jersey and he's hired a dialect coach to sound British. Don't trust him ;) (See what you've started David?) All the best.
